Damien Petitjean / marimba
and percussions
He started studying percussion at age 7 at the Conservatoire de Saint
Etienne. In 1996 he was first prizewinner at the CNSM (Conservatoire
National Supérieur de Musique) in Paris following on a proficiency
course
for two more years in the class of Jacques Delécluse and Jean Geoffroy.
He was also a finalist in the Munich International Competition in 1997.
He joined the Gustav Malher Jugendorchester in 1995 and the Orchestre
de l’Opéra National de Paris in 1998.
He forms first the quartet DefconIV then the trio Rebonds and participates
every year in the season of chamber music at the Opéra National
de Paris.
In 2003 he forms with the violinist Eric Lacrouts the duet Contrastes.
With these bands he has taken part in a great number of creations
(R. Liebermann, B. Carlosséma, L. Guérinel, R. Auzet...)
and recordings.
At the same time, he is an Artist Teacher every summer with the trio
Rebonds at the Epsival brass and percussions academy in Limoges
(France). Very much attracted to traditional music from Africa and Brazil,
he worked with Paul Mindy on the project “Music together”.
In 2001, he
left for Senegal to work with Thiouna Ndiaye Rose.
